Just came home from my first winning session this year after 3 losing ones. It was pretty much a standard night, extravagant and intricate plays, only straight forward poker. Reads are hard to come by especially when I play with almost a different set of faces every single time. There are a few regulars that I play against so I have an idea how they play and what not.

I was trying to think about my game for the past days in hopes of figuring out the leaks and how to plug them. I might be playing a bit too loose for my own benefit. I think I am in a a lot of pots that sets me up for disaster. I tend to shy away from my game plan and play the way which most of my opponents are playing. I need to concentrate more on my game and just trust my skills.

I hope I can continue playing better this year.

Happy New Year to all!

To be honest, I did not have a great start to my year. I was down with the flu during the New Year's eve celebration and I already have two losing sessions playing live. Not the start that I was initially was hoping for, but what can you do?

A friend of mine introduced me to this great piece of reading material, The Power of Now. So, I will just try to live in the moment, not regretting what happened in the past and not worrying about what the future has to offer. And yes, I will try to apply that to my poker game, no matter how absurd it may be.

A reason I think I'm a bit sluggish lately is the fact that I have no exercise for the past 3 months I think. I have to keep my body healthy to keep my mind sharp. I will probably try to squeeze in a boxing session next week and take it from there.

Straight flush

Crazy two weeks of poker for me. I played the Metro 500 and the Metro 75 in one day. Placed 7th on the 500 and 16th I think in the 75. I hope to be playing more 75s in the coming weeks.

It was brought to my attention that my official title right now is a professional poker player, again. I have to say that it one of the most fun and the most stressful professions out there. As the popular saying goes, it is definitely the hardest way to make an easy living.

Anyway, just like to share this cray incident that happened to me a couple of days ago.

I played over at the Metro and was feeling good, was up right away around a thousand when suddenly the donkey in me appeared. Being card dead and tilting is not always the best combination ever, so after 8 hours of playing, I was already stuck around 7500.

I already raised the white flag and accepted defeat for that session, but decided to play for the following reasons: It was already 8:00 A.M. and I did not want to go home because if I do, I will just sleep the whole day, wake up in the middle of the night. This is bad considering I have an early engagement the following morning. Number two reason was I felt pretty good with my game and I know that I can just sit there and wait for the cards to come. I was pretty much sure that I was not going to tilt at any point since I already declared it to be a losing session.

I stayed with my table, a 25-50 table, but the action was kind of weak. The pots that we were playing was small and with my strategy, this was definitely not a good thing. Then I saw a seat open at the 10-20 table. Thought it was a good table, plenty of preflop raising and a bit weak post flop game. I know that I am a favorite in that table. There were a couple of players in the table which I am familiar with their game so I was confident.

Then this hand came. I limped in with 10s6x, thinking that the 6 was a heart. Villain raised to 100, with 2 callers in front of me, I also call. Flop was:

Villain bets for another 100. Thinking that I has an open ended straight draw, I decided to call and see the turn. Turn card was a:

5d

He bets again. At that point, I was already trying to count for my outs, any diamond on the river will be no good for me, just the remaining 2 7 and 2 2.

River was a 7d. Villain bets 500.

One player said "diamond wins" and the player to my left, a friend of mine from high school said "6 of diamonds straight flush". Me? I was already saying all the bad words that I know in my head. This was already after playing for 20 hours straight, so my read was really off. I decided to call.

Villain shows me 2 of diamonds. I then said "sa lahat ng baraha ng pwedeng lumabas, bakit 7 of diamonds pa?". I was thinking of mucking my hand right there, but since I had teh straight, I want him to see that I had at least something so next time it reached the showdown they know I have at least a hand. I flipped over my cards and walked away from the table.

Then there was a commotion in my table. "Hoy gago! straight flush ka kaya!" I apparently had 10s6d! I then immediately apologized to the other player trying to explain that it was not my intention to slow roll or anything to that effect. I really had no idea I had the 6 of diamonds.

So my quick tip, always flip over your cards just to be sure, you might have the nuts without you knowing it.

It's been a good year for me having another chance to go at it again. All I know is 2009 will be a lot better and I just can't wait to ship the chips my way.

Pokerstars and 25th Birthday

I will be starting this blog again because I am playing lots and lots of poker right now. I have right around six months to grind it out, both live and online and be a winning player. The plan is to be a winning player online actually.

The reason for the time constraint is because I plan to go back to school next June. It is not easy to be working and trying to earn a living for yourself to all of a sudden becoming just a normal student. I have to find some means of income to finance my whatevers. So online is the plan. Will be playing live purely as a social event or gathering once I become a full time student again. Hehe.

Never thought I would be playing at Pokerstars but I am. You can look me up (happymikee) grinding the NL10 6max tables from time to time. The reason why I stayed away from Stars for the longest time is because I love Full Tilt Poker because I have a rakeback thing setup with my account. Then I realized that having rakeback is not really good for my game for it messes up my mind. I tend to play looser than normal and don't care if I am tilting because at the back of my head I know I have rakeback coming monthly. So basically, I was just grinding to get rakeback. The pursuit of improving as a player took a back seat. I will miss it though, it is something that will surely get you by during those dry runs. But I will have to go back to basics first and work on my game. I plan to return to FTP soon when my confidence is up there again. Thankfully, I have friends who are raking it in playing NL100 6max, Wild Burro and iBenga who, from that last time we talked, are more than willing to help me out and give me tips and strategies that will help me beat the game.

I also found out that cashing out from Stars is a lot easier since it is the most popular site here in our country. Back then, I used to use Click2pay to withdraw from FTP and let me tell, the charges are plain out robbery. But since a lot of poker players here prefer Stars, selling my Stars dollars via p2p transfer will be a lot easier and quicker.

And today marks my 25th birthday. Quarter of a century of ups and downs, laughter and tears. Thanks you to all of you that are with me throughout.

Been a long time and I have to say I miss blogging about poker. Been playing a little here and there and I have to say that I am rusty, but it looks promising. Actually, I am trying to make a run at it again before I eventually go back to school next June. For those of you out there, you will be seeing me more often now playing live at the Metro Card Club. I plan to take it easy, build up my roll again and give online another run.

Metal Gear Solid 4 and Poker

It's been almost two weeks now since I filed for LOA from work for personal reasons. I'm still awaiting the word if I can transfer to our Ortigas site. So it is just poker and MGS4 for me right now. MGS4 is a solid game and we've been fans of the franchise ever since day one. I wish I have an HD screen so that I can fully appreciate the stunning graphics.

I managed to squeeze out a little profit from live action last Tuesday with the old gang. I directly gave the winning to Mark and asked him to transfer some Full Tilt Cash to my account. I will try to revive my online career.

That's it for now, that is the only thing that's been keeping me busy. And by the way, The Joker rocks!

One Last Time

I have been using my Multiply site to post the current happenings in my life which are moslty non-poker related. Somehow I managed to seperate my private life from my gambling life. You can check it, michaeltee.multiply.com. But the itch is really hard not to scratch. Since my last post here, nothing has really changed, which I plan to by the way.

I'm still working and I will be soon be transferred to Ortigas. Yes, closer to home means less time to travel and more time for other stuff. I'm actually planning to play again and for the third and final time, hopefully get it right this time. For some reason, I suck in poker. I was not always this bad, I improved a little bit, but that was it. After that, it was all downhill from there.

I will give it one last fucking shot this time and I will have a new weapon, public accountability. Yes, it worked for me when I was trying to lose weight. I posted my daily activities so that people now what'g going on therefor mottivated me not to fail. So I plan to do it as well here and post other mumbo jumbo because I plan to use this as my main blog, I will just like this to my multiply account so that my contacts there can also have access to this one.

It will start now and I will keep this blog updated.

Chop or No Chop?

I want to get some opinions about this, I'm not really sure where I stand regarding this issue.

Lately, I have been playing live tournaments again, and I have been noticing this quite often: players chopping the pot 3 way.

I have nothing against distributing the prize and all that, I guess my question is what is proper way doing it? Do you share the pot equally, or will the stack size matter? After the agreement, how will be the eventual winner be determined? I don't think it will be fair to the other players who played the tournament if the eventaul winner will clinch the tournament by winning a satellite or by drawing for the high card.

I know money is a big part of the tournament, but we also play to figure out who played the best that night. For me, it is such a waste to see a great tournament end with the high card draw because it's already 5 in the morning and they have to be at the office by 8. You entered the tournament, I think you should be responsible enough to acknowledge taht it will take some time before it ends.

Want to hear from you guys... so I'll know what to do hehehe

Played the 75

Had the chance to play the Metro 75 for the first time and it was an awesome experience. I'm happy with my 5th place finish since it's the first time that I played a live MTT since the charity tournament last February where I placed 7th.

The 75 is one tough tournament to crack with the quality of the field, but I'm using some happy thoughts power here so I know I'll crack it one of these days. I plan to play 7 more 75s and see what happens.

I was never known to be an MTT player, never had a good showing when I play one. Most of the people who really know my game inside out say that ring will be my strongest game. I have some success playing live SNGs, but MTT, nada.

So that is my goal right now, to play in as much live MTT as I can. Cover as much ground as I can to catch up with the local scene. Get some street cred.

I know I will make it.

Rollercoaster

More than a week now since I started playing again and I'm generally happy with my progress. I was not expecting to be playing like this after being away from the game for so long, still not the way we want it to be the way though. Basically, I'm trying to relearn the game which I find very difficult. Very similar to golf when you already developed some bad habits, it takes a lot of coaching, patience, and an open mind.

There are some things that are working in my favor right now which is definitely a plus. It at least takes half of the stress of losing and double the pleasure of winning.

Right now it's up and down with a little profit, but I know that I have to do way better than this to be a winning player and have a chance of making playing again full time. I know what thing to work on, it's going be tough but I can see it happening.

Back to square one

Been playing online since Saturday again, and let me tell you, it feels so different. It is similar to the feeling that you get after being able to scratch an itch that has been bothering you for some time now. What a relief.

A couple of things will make it better this time. One, I have a real job, which means that I don't have to rely so much from my poker earnings. This means that I will less pressure and more money to actually pad my roll and keep on playing and hopefully roll int the bigger games. Secondly, I have a coach, manilagrind. We actually talked about how to proceed with the whole thing to make sure that I maximize exploiting the 6.5. It also is becoming more clear that this is the thing that we really want to do in the near future. Hopefully this can create a healthy environment for players who are trying to take the game seriously enough to make a career out of it. I know he has some people in mind, so I just hope that the "crew" actually gets bigger.

Slowly making my way back

April 21, 2007 was my last post here. Man, long time ago. Been paying attention to what has been happening with the local scene and quite happy about those developments. The people who are leading the way to a bright future are really doing a great job.

As for me, working is not so bad I have to admit, but I have to have my poker fix. Been slowly playing a little bit of online poker here and there. Been thinking of putting a little money in PokerStars and try the site. Played a 9 man SnG satellite for the $500k Sunday Guaranteed over at Full Tilt, I got the seat and will be playing this Monday at 6:00 A.M. Will do my best on that one, lets see what happens.

hiatus

I will be having a hiatus from playing poker for an indefinite time. I was playing hardcore for the half a year and decided to have a break. It's tough when all you see everyday is your monitors and no one else to talk to. It gets depressing at times. I've enjoyed the money and the freedom it gave me, but i just really feel like a bum. I've decided to work for real this time around. Haha! It actually feels good, for now at least. The days are a lot quicker, so are the weeks. Pay is good, can't really complain about it. I still play poker but only to satisfy my itch. By the way, no one really forced me into getting a job, it was just realization from my part, better to try working now. Makes me appreciate the value of money more. Playing poker is tough and it is hard-earned money, but compared to a 9-5, it is easy money, so I don't value it as much before.

Poker will always be there for me, but I don't think getting my first real job would be easy when I'm 42. LOL!

Probably my last post here, really don't now coz i'm using my multiply account now for my blog. Just to make it clear that I am not walking away from poker, i love it, just that I'll be playing way less, and posting way less too...

Datamining

I just learned this a couple of days a go when my new online poker buddy, Jayme, taught me how to do it. Basically, you get your Poker Tracker running, observe some tables, and it automatically gets the HH of your opponents. So the next time I play with them, I have sufficient stats on them, sweet. Also got a better HUD program, PokerAceHUD. Got a bit overwhelmed with the stats at first, but slowly got the hang of it.

Also got a $100 bonus from Full Tilt, which is sweet as always.

Played for charity

Played the charity event last Saturday. It was held over at the Robinson's Galleria. It was the first time a PAGCOR sanctioned event was held in such a public venue. The who's who of local poker was there. Just read Miguel's blog for the tournament report. I'm writing from my point of view.

Not really a fan of rebuy tournament I think this is the first time I played one. So I don't have any strategy whatsoever. I just kept saying to myself that poker is poker, and just tried to play my game, the way I know how.

Was seated together with the eventual winner, Che, Kelly, Aaron, Dondi, 2 young players, a dude, and the tita of Neil. Dealt with cowboys, went all after the raise of kelly, was sure he was going to call with whatever he had. I think I was the first one to double up after the first hand. Hehe. Having a field of 107, this may be the biggest live tournament I ever played, and it gave me the chills to tell you the truth. I don't do really well in the past tournaments I entered, but that was a a long time ago. Nonetheless, I don't regard myself as a strong tournament player. Luck helped me a lot this time around though, especially when I was facing elimination. Rivered an 8 for my trips and triple up. Then slowly, it was down to the final table, and I had a healthy stack. Eventually busted out 7th, my top pair with AQo vs the nut flush AKs of the winner, Che. I think we were the only ones who did not had to rebuy. I got a Sony Ericsson W810i walkman phone. Nice nice phone, way cooler than I expected.

Hope this carries on throughout the month. Good cards, good play.

Got Creamed Playing 25NL

I was having a good run playing 10NL. So I decided to test the waters of 25NL. Got creamed I tell you. I was stuck 4 buy-ins playing for the last 4 days. Aces cracked, Kings cracked, Straight vs. runner runner boat. You name it, it happened to me.

So it's back to grinding the 10NLs again. Sick sick world of poker.

I'll be trying something new again this coming March. I'll be setting a target profit. Say $600 including rakeback? I think this number is attainable after a month of trying to adjust to the pace of ring. Will be reciting the phrase "I will earn $600 this month playing poker." Auto-suggestion, let's see if it will work.

Lessons learned

Almost a month now since I switched over to ring games, and I can say that I'm having a blast playing it. I'm enjoying it because I feel that I learn things, old and new, which is important for me to become a better player. I'm up playing it, but I should be up a lot more.

I steal pots well, play my position good, pocket pairs, suited connectors, the blinds, etc. The problem that I saw was that I tend to lose big pots, placing myself into situations that could be avoided. I'm guessing this is due to the fact that I came from playing hundreds of SnGs, turbo at that, where the strategy is push or fold. I seem to forget at times that I'm not playing a freeze out tournament. As a result, I lose big pots.

That happened during the first two weeks of me playing ring. Recovered from it already, and back on track.

Played a couple of SnGs, online of course, just to find out if I still have it in me. I still do... naks... But will still play ring primarily, planning on to move up stakes mid next month, or whenever bankroll permits, and have the numbers to show that I crushed the level which I'm playing.

A day in the life...

Two months into this going pro thing things have been pretty good. Stress free for I'm doing what I really want to do, probably not the smartest thing, but nonetheless happy. They say that poker is the hardest way to earn an easy living, and you know what, they are right. So I'd like to share with you all what goes on during my normal day.

5:00 - wake up, feed my dog, Sarg, walk him and clean up his crap. Then sleep again
8:00 - wake up, siblings going to school so a lot of noise around the house.
8:30 - Boot up the computer, check my mail, blog, surf, study strategy, doing my poker homework.

9:30 - start playing
10:30 - break, surf again, check my stats, review certain hands, do everything else,
11:30 - play again
12:30 - lunch break, watch some noontime television shows
2:30 - play again
3:30 - break, go down to the local fish ball guy, eat some kikiam, yellow corn, etc. (i live in front of a school, so expect a lot of street vendors)
4:00 - take a nap
5:30 - off to the gym(lost 10lbs since the new year, niiiceee!)
7:30 - dinner
8:30 - everything else, shower, etc.... surf, tv,
10:00 - start playing again, taking breaks after every hour of playing. but this depends, sometimes I spend around 2 hours tops playing then break again.
2:00 - tv, then some zzzzzz

Rinse and repeat, 7 times a week.

The beauty of rings, sit down and stand up anytime. Of course this is not a strict schedule. I go out with the girlfriend whenever she's free, I have no reason not to be free. Tuesdays or Wednesday play some bball jams with some fellas, including tipsy. And the occasional weekend parties. A lot of time to reflect, talk to my dog, sleep, dream and... Unfortunately, not enough interaction with real people. It gets annoying when all you have to talk to is someone who will just say NICE CALL YOU &^#@ING DONKEY!!!! Hey, I'm a people person, we need backup.

Will be having some minor changes to the schedule, You'll find out all soon enough hehehe.

Lord of the ring... game

Been playing the $10NL 6max tables, 4 tabling as always, and I'm glad to say that I'm actually doing pretty OK. So far, I've been able to match what I make playing the SnGs, if not, better. The rakeback is also good, if not, faster. With only 4000 hands played, which is not enough sample, I can't really say if this will last, but things look pretty good. I'll evaluate when I reach 15k hands, then 25k, 50k, and 100k. Hopefully by then I'll be able to move up to 25NL or even 50NL. I would like to think that I can hold my own playing those levels, I'll take shots one in a while. But for now, I'll just let my bankroll decide where I play.

Poker Tracker is an awesome program! It does everything for you, your stats, and opponents stats. Very comprehensive stats. I can find out if I'm better off folding my blinds than defending it, if I'm stealing enough, if I'm losing money playing suited connectors and connectors, etc. Identifying the leaks is quicker and eliminates the guess work. I know some of you have this program and don't use it because you don't know how to, let me know, will be glad to help.

Another program that I currently use is Gametime+. This little baby gets the information from my Poker Tracker and displays the stats of my opponents right beside their names on the table. Very cool. I can now have real time stats of my opponents, if the schmuck is a TAG, LAG, SLAG, etc. This helps me exploit situations and gives me confidence with my decisions because now I have some numbers to back me up, not just because I just felt it.

I'm still undecided if ring games make me lazier or gives me more optimum time to play. Unlike SnGs before, I wake up early to catch the traffic. But with ring, there's always a game waiting for me, not me waiting for players. I play for a minimum or an hour, and a maximum of two hours per session. Then have like a three hour break. LOL. But this goes throughout the day.

February goals and IT WAS NOT ME!

Start of a brand new month and decided to set some goals so that I can have a guide and to track my progress better. I've decided to test the waters of online NLHE ring. Why? It is because of 2 reasons:

1. Most, if not all, SnG players shift to ring games one they reach the high stakes. They do so because it becomes harder and harder to have a +ROI because of the amount of rake they pay, and player pool becomes so small, that it is essentially a "shark eat shark" thing. Some players report that having a 1%ROI is very good, break even if you're lucky, using rakeback as profit.

I know I'm not yet playing that high, but if that's where the road will lead me to, then I would like to have a jump start. I plan to play the lowest level there is over at FT which is the $10NL, and will be playing the 6max tables rather than the full tables. Hopefully I can move up to the 25NL before the month is over. Then steadily moving up the ladder.

2. I'm much more of a ring player than a tourney strategist, or at least consider myself as one. The only reason why I don't playing ring online is because I got discouraged early on when I started playing whey going busto playing ring. Self-doubt kicks in and will kill your game. But with the help of some people, and some message boards, I think I will grasp the winning strategy playing ring. Plus, I finally learned how to analyze the stats PokerTracker is showing. It now has a use!!!! LOL!

Will still be playing the turbo sngs and some MTTs on the side, to add variety and help me become a more complete player. I really want to the crack the ring games this time around, and will not stop until I do.

An underground poker operation got raided the other night. Don't know much about the incident other than some of our friends saw me included in the raid.

Me? are you kidding? LOL! Well, it wasn't me! I was busy sipping my black forest drink over at Coffee Bean Promenade Greenhills when the event happened.

My first losing month

It's bound to happen so I was kinda prepared for it. Still have a couple of days left but I'm gonna consider it already as a losing month. Rather not make any desperate move to break even, it might throw me off my game and lose more than what I already lost.

Been playing looser than I usually am, so I'm leaking chips left and right. Plugged it already and much more confident about my game. Gambling more often that I should. Been playing a lot of MTT's with thousands of entrants. Was really hoping to cash in the big one, to bring home the bacon. Bad plan, should take it a step at a time as they say. If you book 'em. they will come. Only to managed to cash once. Note to self: STAY AWAY FROM THE MTTS! BANKROLL NOT BIG ENOUGH YET! But my day will come, I can smell it around the corner.

Glad to see my brother bust his roll. It taught him a lesson about bankroll management. Luckily for him, he will be up and running in a couple of days because he has rakeback. He's my affiliate so I just returned to him my commission from Full Tilt and gave him a lil' something something so I can make more money off his ass.

Can't wait for the coming month! It'll be a good one.

Some changes around here

Changed some things around here, as you can see the title of this blog right now is Bubble Bros. That's is because I will be sharing this blog with my brother. He recently started playing online as well. Wait for his first post here to learn about his crazy antics. LOL

Been a rough month so far, just managed to pull even. Been jumping up and down the 11s and the 6.50s, but all turbos. Don't have the pace of regulars. Been also playing a MTT everyday to spice things up and to prepare myself when I play one of the huge field live MTT.

Mid-December Update

It's time for my mid-month update for a couple of reasons.

1. It's the ides of December
2. Just set a personal record of playing 71 games in less than 24 hours. Broke even.
3. After that crazy and brutal downswing last weekend, managed to recover it all, so I'm about even right now.
4. Bought the Tourney Manager, to make my tracking a lot lot easier. It auto-imports hand histories for your sit and go's. Sweet ass sweet! Well worth it. It also shows you rake back!

So there you go folks, even so far, but cashed out some of my earned bonus dollars to buy the Tourney Manager and to have some spending cash. Hope to turn things around before Christmas, or at least before the month ends.

I think I'm currently ranked 40th out of all the low limit SnG players of Full Tilt.(low limit means SnGs with buy ins lower than 24). Nice ey? Hope to move up the ranks before the month ends to get some extra money from that. LOL

Been experimenting between regulars and turbos. I got the hang of the pace of turbos, it's just that the swings are really brutal especially for me since I'm playing eight tables at a time. So I tried playing some regulars, but I have not played enough games for me to conclude anything. I actually loss money playing the regulars. Not decided on that one yet, all I know is, after playing around 400 turbo games, regulars are BORING!!!

Also played with 11finger the $7500 Guaranteed Tournament the other night. Busted out 99th out of 450 players, 11finger moneyed. Great job buddy. We are now officially online buddies. We are like a "bad beat support group" for each other. LOL Nice to have someone to share the shit poker is giving you at times. LOL

The weekend was brutal for some of the local online players I know. 11finger, mnlgrind and yours truly, were chatting while playing and the beats goes on and on and on.

My Saturday and Sunday sessions were the worst run I ever had playing online. It's not like my card were cold, its just that I always get knocked out on the river. Take exhibit A for example.

Tried everything to turn my luck around, shaved my whiskers probably helped me a little bit. The only tournament worth mentioning was I finished 2nd by accidentally registering myself in a HORSE tourney. Not my bread and butter as you all know, especially razz and stud, but rocked the tabled when the games were LHE and Omaha Hi/Lo.

But thanks to my razor, luck returned into my screens. Started playing yesterday and recovered half of my losses in 16 games, and slowly getting the rest back.

As you can see in Exhibit B, the deck is giving me love and care I need. ooh baby...

The sharp body sharp mind thing is also slowly taking it effect. No more back pains while playing Hehe.

Thoughts About My Game

Been playing hold 'em for more than a year now, and recently reached the 1000-game-mark playing online for a little over three months now and a lot has happened to my game overall. I'm happy with the overall progress of my game. I feel that I am a smarter player now than before after logging in countless of hours on the felt and clicking away over the internet, griding day in and day out. I say smarter because I feel that I am now capable of accessing most parts of my game and knowing if I made the correct decision at that particular situation. Unlike before when I really believed that I always made the correct one and attributed the outcome to luck.

I'm not claiming in anyway that my decisions are always correct now. However, I am more aware now of the mistakes which I make, analyze it to further improve my game. The thing I need to work on right now is the discipline in sticking with making the right call all the time. There are moments when I know what the right play, but just feel like gambling and be the giver of the suck out. LOL

I know I'm heading towards the right direction, and just have to work it out to reach my goal.

So far, so good.

Answering the call of Tito Nickg for more post, here I am trying to deliver one. Been getting the hang of the pace of the turbos and the $6.5 level. Playing around 16 games a day at least, so I'm on track to achieving my goal for number of games this month. The big monitor setup really helped a lot since I can now see all four tables and know which table I should shift into overdrive and which one to set in cruise mode. I will be experimenting soon with another monitor and see if I can handle eight tables all at once. I was able to do it before, around seven tables while using a laptop, so stay tuned for that one.

Also playing ring games over at FBA Poker. Nice site! you can chop the pot and straddle the big blind, how cool is that? Been up a couple of dollars there after hitting a straight flush hehe. Too bad did not get any jackpot for that one. Not as much traffic as compared to the other bigger sites, but nice site overall. Kudos again to the people over at FBA, been very helpful with their live support chat. Answered every questions I threw at them.

Was able to use the debit card last Thursday. Big ups to Mr. Ronald Magleo of Click2Pay for helping me out activating the card, thanks bro! Took my girl out which made me miss the blooger tourney, big ups to Tita Barb, and to my boy mnlgrind/jackcadillac for placing 2nd. Aslo to Mav and his crew for putting up that tourney. As mentioned in my previous post, I intend to invest in my health, been hitting the gym for about two days now, and all I can say is that my body is sore all over. No effect in my game yet, LOL.

Joined last weeks $25,000 guaranteed pot over at Full Tilt. Got my seat by winning a six-handed turbo satellite. Unfortunately, my aces got cracked by K7d hitting his flush on the river and outing me in 600th place out of 1686 players. Will try to play one big MTT online every month and see how it goes.

And lastly, the WPT event is fast approaching, and I'm try to look for stakers so I can play this event. Hope to have a godmother for this one. My roll can't afford the buy-in as of the moment. Will be also posting on nickg's tourney godmother forum for this one.

November Report, Debit Card, and High Blood

Been playing over at Full Tilt for more than a week now but since the month is over, might as well post some results and close the month in preparation for the coming month. I was able to play just over 300 games, 4 tabling the $6.50 turbos mostly, and was fortunate enough to finish the month strong with around 6% ROI and around $120 in profit plus $60 bonus. Not bad for a weeks play. Won't be posting graphs because my SnG Tracker is not working properly right now. According to it, I am up around $200 for the month. Crazy.

The first couple of days was mostly used as a transition period for me to get use with the software and the pace of turbo SnG. It was a rough start but got the hang of it soon enough and managed to make a little money. I won't be having rakeback this month because I did not reached the $50 quota, so my balance will be carried over to next month.

Got my Click2Pay debit card a while ago, really excited to use it. I'm just waiting for it to be activated. First thing I'm going to spend on? Gym membership! Just found out that I have hypertension and that I am obese according to the Body Mass Index. Got to take care of the body, the mind can not work without it. I'll also be going to play basketball every Tuesday together with some of my friends, played last night and immediately got cramps. I'm one out of shape fat dude. This is just unfortunate because I will not be able to participate in the online poker league of 11daliri. I guess I have to fake an injury or something next week to play poker. LOL

Guess what, I'm still in school. Turns out I don't have the balls or the screws around my head are still tight. Really don't know if it's the former or the later, whatever it is, it's good. I actually enjoyed the first week of the semester. LOL

My body clock changed and became normal again, thank god. I am a morning person after all. It's hard to believe that a person like me who's use to being awake the whole night, sleeps around eleven the latest and wakes up at around five. Signs of old age?

I now have broadband net connection, I can now play whenever I wish to. A 19 inch monitor, which I got really cheap, for the 4-table-no-overlap effect. Deposited money to Full Tilt using Moneygram, and ordered my debit card from Click2Pay for my cash outs. My rakeback affiliate recently closed down, good thing he transfered his clients to another rakeback site.

So there you go, all is set, now the hardest part of them all. I got to start winning.

My head is messing up with my mind

I really don't know where to start with this post, I just really need a place where I can vent out my feelings and thoughts. So please forgive me for if this post will not be organize or something.

I cashed out my money from AP, pushing thru with my plans of transfering to Full Tilit. I will add a little more to what I will deposit to FT to fully take advantage of the 100% bonus they are offering. And as a support to my good friend Nickg, I will also deposit a little something to FBA. Liked to take Atty. Eric with helping me with the cash out, thank bro.

I will also in the process of getting a reliable broadband connection again. I've been using a dial-up connection for about 3 months now since my dsl got disconnected. That is the main reasin why I only play from 12 midnight to 8 A.M. since it is the only time those ISP provides unlimited connection. I really want to play earlier and actually get some sleep. My body is deteriorating by the day with my kind of sleeping pattern.

By being able to transfer to Full Tilt and get a broadband, I know that it will be a beggining of something that will have a tremendous effect in my life. Deep inside I know, these are the things that will signal that I will be playing poker online for a living, full time.

I'm both happy and sad right now about me trying to go pro. I'm happy because this is a dream for me. I'll be finally doing something I'm really passionate about and have a chance of having it feed, shelter, and clothed not only me, but my 2 younger brothers and my little sister as well.

But at the same time, I really feel sad about it. As of now, I have decided to stop school for me to be able to do this full time, and have the oppurtunity to do other work as well sometime in December. As much as I don't enjoy going to school, it's really hard not to. Our society has put so much value to a degree and it is how we are measured by other people.

The way I see it right now, I had my chance. and blew it. I still have another year and a half of schooling to go before I get my diploma. So if ever, I'll be spending 6 years in college. I should have graduated last March but I was stupid, I took what I had forgranted. It's either I stop and tryo to help out to send my 3 siblings to school, or we all stop.Money was not a problem for the most part of my life, then the sudden death of my my changed all that. We have problems paying rent, got out electricity cut off for about a week for not paying it, having to live by the day and all that. Never in a million years I imagined that this day will happen. I have to admit that I was a spoiled kid, and everyting was practically given to me. As the saying goes, "the higher you are, the harder you fall".

I am not using this situation as an excuse to be play poker and all that. It's just that right now, I feel that it is my best oppurtunity for me to make some money and try to support me and my family. I'm just trying to strike while the iron is hot. Maybe it will allow me to pursue other ventures in the future.

I just find it ironic that I've been dreaming of being a pro for sometime now, and now that it is actually here, I'm actually a bit nervous about it. I can'ta fail now, I can't afford to.

October Report, blackjack, and more misadventures

First off, this is a poker blog, so I guess I need to discuss my poker play for this month. Well, what can I say about it, it sucks! It was a bad month for me overall. But at least I managed to got it back to end up with a positive ROI. Here are the numbers:

I know the numbers are quite weird, well, let me try to explain. I was hit badly playing the $11's, went back playing the $7's, still no results. To save my roll, because I promised to myself that I will do whatever I can not to bust my roll this time, I went back down playing the $2's again. Then slowly managed to climb back playing the $7's. They were not kidding when they called this a grind.

See the number of tournies? Way below my target for this month and still below my average of 400 games a month. Again, a lot of external factors came in to play. Electricity got cut off by Meralco for late payments. No electricty, no poker. Was with Mark(mnlgrind) to Calatagan, got wasted for like two days. Again, 2 days of no poker, lost about 60 games right there. But I tell you, the trip was well worth it. Test drove my friends car with newly installed racing coilovers so I was able to take some sharp corners at 150kp/h. Yes baby, fatboy can drive. Arrived there, got immediately wasted, had dinner, went to sleep, got up around 12md, and got wasted again. Don't ask me with what, I don't think I am allowed to go into detail with that shit. All I can say is, it's a hell of a substance.

When I got back, I went off to do a hosting job for my friend's sister's debut. It was a probono thing, but all good. Again, another night of no poker for I was chugging down a bottle a bubbly. Another 30 games down the drain.

Then some friends invited me to this pre halloween party over at Temple bar. Again, fucking wasted, VIP lounge, free entracne, free bottle of jagermeister, the lone thorn among roses. Felt like Vinny fucking Chase. An overweight, blonde, drunk, chinese dude, drinking and dancing the night away, what a fucking scene huh?

And oh, about blackjack. I just returned everything I got from them back, around $138 to be exact, which was actaully the money lost playing the ring games. So it was like, I was down, playing ring, got it back playing blackjack, then lost it again to blackjack. Just as when you think you know, you really have no idea playind that stupid game. Blackjack, a hell of a game. Would like to take this oppurtunity to take mnlgrind for teaching me the martingale systema and introducing me to this fucking wonderful game of BLACKJACK! THANKS MARK!

Back to poker

I'm just fixing somethings so that I can transfer to FullTilt, heard their having a lot of traffic over there thanks to Party Poker. And plus the fact I'll be having click2pay and all that debit card thing doing on for me to cash out.

Expect more poker this month from me, and lets hope that it will be a good month for me. Let see if I can take this to the next level, the pros baby.

Mid-October right now and I'm just actually happy to be up just a bit with the kind of beats I have been getting especially during the second week of the month. I was actually stuck around $100 when the week started, confidence dwindling down eh drain, but I hang in there.

Mark's twin, Mike, then staked us to play 2 games in the 22's, with Mark in the pilot seat and me as his wingman, I felt good. He managed to place 1st and 3rd, this also allowed me to see him playing and gets some notes and what not. If he can do, I can do it. LOL

On a lighter note, I want to wish the event organizers, tournament directors, and most especially the players who will participate in this weekends WPT event over at the ACF. Hope you guys do great and pave the way for the future of poker in our country.

During the last week of the month, I decided to move up to 7's so that I can have a feel for it when I actually start playing that level this October. I'm actually doing pretty good right now in that level, 25%ROI, 44%ITM, but only played 88 tournies so I don't know yet if it's just short term luck or if I'm really killing it.

Plan to transfer to Full Tilt when I my roll hits $500 so that I'll have an easier time cashing out using click2pay. AP does not support withdrawals via c2p, only via check.

Mid-September Update

Just like to share my progress to all of you who read my blog. The start of my month was not so good, luckily I managed to recover most of my losses by sticking with the game plan, which is to play the 2s for this month, and move up to the 7s next month.

Initially I was only two tabling the 2s, then shifted to 4 tables, but I was not winning as much as I would like to. I tried to figure out the leaks of my game and found out that I was not able to concentrate enough to the game which I was playing. Surfing the net, ym, and downloading songs got me distracted without me knowing it. I tend to fold my stack away, or go all in in some very dangerous situations. Then I found the solution.

Thanks to the propbet mnlgrind and I have, I started playing 5-7 tables at a time, and found out that it really helped my concentration and decision making a lot. As a live ring game player before, I was really use to playing the position and the people rather than playing the odds and all that math. I found out that when I play less that 4 tables, I tend to use a lot of fancy plays, which are not necessary and often times cause me trouble. But with 7 tables all at once, I started playing straight up poker.

Initially, I was having problems with it because I tend to fold most of the time without noticing the blinds going up, my stack dwindling down, and not shoving my chips when I should. Aslo, I found it difficult when one table was heads up and the other 3 tables are still 6 handed. I managed to find the right balance now and been able to cope up with it.

Right now I already had 191 games, I am averaging 15 games a day, and on track to m goal of 400 games a month, 0% ROI, 42% ITM. The reason why my ROI is 0 is because my brother talked me into playing a $2000 guaranteed $3 rebuy NLH tournament, came out spending $21. Never again, well, not never, but not in the near future. Thank god for rakeback!

I don't think varaince has showed itself yet, I had some awful coolers, but I don't think it's the varaince that I'm really preparing for. I'm just hoping that when it comes, I'll be ready for it.

My graph shows that it's on its way up. I hope to continue it so I can paly the 7s next month as planned. Will update again with pictures for all of you picture book only guys at the end of the month.

The end of the week is so fucking brutal for me because the deck does not wish to cooperate with me. I promised to detached myself from bad beasts but this is just so horrible. I was 4 tabling a while ago and bubbled 3 times, opened another one and bubbled that one too. It just makes a man cry when you see 4 of your tables having JJ, AA, KK, AK all losing at the same time by hands such as J9, A2, etc. You really feel like someone is playing a mean prank on you . I really wanted to throw my laptop to the pool when my last AK took me out of the game facing a hand like 59o. Maybe it's variance kicking in since I'm nearing the 300 mark. Maybe I'm just not playing to the best of my abilities. God knows what the hell this maybe, all I know is its sucks to be me right now.

Random Thoughts part 2

I took a week off from school last week to take a break from a busy August, tons of school work, midterms and what not. Tried to exert some effort in starting out the autoshop me and some of friends are tyring to open. And played lots and lots of poker online.

I have to admit that taking that break caused a lot of things to pop into my head once again. Things unique to us younger guys here. We are faced with a new challenge, we now have an alternative, we now have the choice to play poker for our living. The lure of raking in the cash while playing the thing that we love doing is really playing with my mind lately. I like to think of it as if I am planning be a professional bball palyer. The thing is, no matter how we look at it, it will never be the same. Here's why...

Pro basketball players are like rockstars, they can do what they want because they play a mean game. Millions cheer for them, buy their jerseys and merchendise etc. Some of them, and they are growing in numbers, go straight from high school. Forget college, these guys will roll over tons and tons of moolah. That is not whay I envy them for. You gotta give it to them, it's a god given thing for them to be 6'8 and be able to fly like eagles across the court. The thing that I want is the approval of the masses about their status in society.

Fine, even if graduate from the best freakin university here in the country, I don't think I'll have the guts to put in my calling card "Michael Tee - Pro Poker Player". People will not understand, or is it me who does not understand? Playing Poker for a living is a great thing. Even if it wont bring me riches, just enough money to feed me, dress me, and shelter me will be fine.

I just hope things will be better for poker players in the near future.

Gave the $5 NLHE MTT a shot over at Absolute Poker twice.... placed 7th and 4th for a combined profit of $38. Got an invite to play the $1000 AP challenge this Monday at 4a.m. but I think I'll let Mark play that one for me.

Happy to report that I'm still playing and that I have managed to up my roll a bit so I can now play the 2's. I just wonder how long will it take me to play the 7's then the 11's and the 22's. As long as I keep doing what I do and keep on improving, I hope I'll be playing the 11's by the end of this year. I hope.

I was a bit lucky to be abel to move up levels even if I only played the 1's for only 2 weeks. Playing again made me feel so happy. I don't get bored or anything. Just pure ecstacy. I hope my enthusiasm for the game continues.

It's been almost a week now since I started playing online again and things are looking promising. I lost a third of my roll in the first 3 days of playing which really got me worried. Luckily I had the Camp behind me plugged in the leaks of my game. Right now, I'm slow starting to regain most of my loses and because of my rakeback, I'm on track in moving up stakes by next week.

Well, my goal right now is to slowly rebuild my bankroll and eventually play in the 22s or even the 55s in a year and a halfs time, just in time for my graduation from college. Mnlgrind and I talked about it and he told me that only at those levels will we enjoy the fruits of our labor.

Earlier, I brought my wireless router to Tilter's pad since it has no use for me as of the moment coz I don't have net access right now. Mnlgrind, Tilter, and I planned to play together and help each other in terms of improving each's game.

I had a downsing since I started playing again, and the crew decided to help me out and try to figure out whats wrong with my game. Guess what, I wasn't aggressive enough.

I could not believe my ears to hear that I am not as aggressive as I was before. Maybe because I'm more cautious and months of not playing resulted into that. Luckily, the camp helped me plugged in the leaks of my game and of this writing I'm 5 0f 7 ITM. Not bad.

Came back from a game earlier with a big smile on my face. I'm happy with the way I played, I managed to apply some brakes to my aggression and protect my stack throughout the session. Just like what I said before, sometimes I play good, sometimes I don't. Fortunately, it was one of those sessions where I played good. I was lucky enough to win monster pots with my nut straight holding JToff dealer button with a flop like 7-8-9 rainbow and hit my set with my pocket 9s limping it in early position behind a live straddle. Just like what a friend said to me, "even my grandma can play the nuts", so I guess the key for me was hand selection and a working radar.

My problem is sometimes I really feel like playing a little bit loose than necessary. There is nothing wrong with being a loose player as long as you can control it. Because I am stubborn, pretentious, and obnoxious, there are times when I turn green and the inner hulk takes over. But after talking to a friend of mine, I realized that he is right and got my aggression under control, somewhat.

I'm having a hard time writing something new. I can't really talk about strategies and whatnot, you'll be better off reading books and sites like twoplustwo and cardpalyer. I was thinking of doing a 'blind item' corner, but Tilter and Mnlagrind warned me that I might step on some people by doing that. If and when I device a system where I can blind item a certain person, there will be a "showbiz" corner in this blog everytime I pick something new from a source.

Speaking of sources, I have a lot of people helping me out, giving me ideas on what to blog about. I'll keep their identities confidential, they might give me something juicy. Showbiz...

And about the Tilter and Mnlagrind and the Camp. Yes, we are still around, but as you all might have noticed, there hasn't been too much action going down on pinoyrounders.blogspot.com the reason being is that I realized that Tilter has a tell, Goma is popping prozacs like a Flintsone chewable, Fish has a busted knee, and that I have a soft spot for chickens. No podcast cast coz it takes too much time and effort to edit that shit, and it's not fun when you have to do it.

Lastly, I'm so sorry to the people who ordered DVD's. I ran out of discs and it takes 2 hours to make one. I'll update you with it.

Feeling so alive

Played a 20/40 table a while ago, and let me tell you, it felt so good. Although I have to admit that I am a little bit rusty, but there was still some moments of brilliance. However, it was overshadowed by 3 consecutive donkey moves from my part. I felt really stupid committing those mistakes which sadly cost me all of my chips. Nonetheless, it felt really good playing cards once again.

I will be posting more now since I think I'll be playing more again. It's not me to go into details regarding a certain hand, how it played, and what beats happened, but I'll try to share some experiences that I think is significant or funny or donkey. hehehe

I finished my summer classes, thank god, so no I can concentrate more on the finner things in life.

Yesterday, a very good friend of mine Benny, brought me along to watch the Philippine Open, an Asian tour scantioned event. Wow, these guys can hit a golf ball with such accuracy and power. It was a nice quiet stroll down the East course of the Wack Wack G&CC. If I win a WSOP or WPT event, I know now where I will buya golf memebership.

Last Tuesday, Goma and I played a satellite for tommorrows 5k tournament. I love it when you feel like raising with J9h with two callers, the flop comes 7-8-10. wahahahahaha. but as usual, I finished bubbly bubble. Fuck. I just have to say that the blind sturcture was a bit nitro, not turbo, but nitro. But as I would like to say, a poker game is a poker game, can't really complain. That was one of my new year's resolution for this year, got to lessen my complaining.

And as due to popular request for another controversy, here it goes

The best of the best and some changes

I recently read somewhere over at pokermanila.com forums a thread discussing the best player in the Philippines. I think Maverick named 3 players which I totally agree with him that the players that he mentioned are without a doubt exceptional players.

However...

I think that it's too soon for us to be talking about who are the best players in the country today for the simple reason that poker is still in it's infancy stage here. Most players have been playing hold'em for more than year and the casino has been running the games there for less than a year, only a handful of tournaments with some having some controversies. No professional tour, having only one casino running tables. Our country simply has not log in enough poker hours to separate the good players from the not so good players. Who knows? Maybe one of these donkeys will one day win the WSOP main event and become a worldwide phenom bigger than Pacman.

I'm not saying that it's wrong to talk about it. Sure, it's fun to talk about these things. It even helps us by admiring these players and trying to learn from them. I'm just saying these as a bit of precaution so that we'll be able to push each other and raise the level of play here.

On a lighter note, I recently changed the title of this blog from "The Adventures of Nutsboy" to "Nutsboy Poker". I dunno, just felt like I had make it sound more mature. I'm having a hard time keeping up with the depth of the articles nickg and maverick had been putting up, the least I can do is to have a more mature sounding title. LOL And in terms of having a brand name, I think nutsboy poker has a better ring to it. Nutsboy Poker merchandise anyone?

I hate the fact that I live so far away from the casino. I've been itching to play live since last week, but unfortunately, my get-away car has been busted for about two weeks now and missed it's yearly registration at LTO. Fu**! Plus the fact that the pace of summer classes is brutal! I have to jam all that information into my head in less than a month! I already have a hard time trying to do that in 4 months during the regular semester, what more now?

The Million Peso Tournament

The Million Peso Hold 'em Philippine Championships went under way yesterday and will resume play today. I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing that I didn't play due to various reasons. I have no real update from that event so I can't share anything about it.

I just hope that in the near future, there will be more tournaments catered to the real poker players, tournaments designed to give the players real opportunity to showcase their skills and reward them for doing so.

We're still waiting for the World Poker tour Philippines to start rolling in hopes that it will provide us players an avenue to do what we do best and promote the game not only nationwide but also throughout the region.

While browsing the forums sections of Poker Manila, I stumbled upon a thread where the topic was poker etiquette. I was planning to post a comment, but I decided to just post it here in my home turf where I am the king. Besides, people there will have the chance to read this because Poker Manila subscribes to my RSS feed. High Tech si Nustboy!

The thing that ticks me off is when a player/s discuss the correct way a particular hand should been played while still playing against each other. I guess this is alright when it is a friendly game or when they talk about it over coffee or dinner, but not while playing.

I've seen players get into heated arguments because they feel that they have been disgraced by certain comments that a player made about his play. It's his money, let him do whatever he wants to with it. If he made a horrible play, just be happy that you're playing against him in hopes of getting his money if he continues to play like a donkey. Don't try to be the poker analyst and tell him the better way of playing it.

Again, if you're playing with friends, I guess it's OK. When nickg, mnlgrind, goma, dirty ass cream, mischa, and other of my poker friends tell me that I made a donkey move, I welcome it. But if it's a stranger, it sure does gets into my nerves.

At the end of the day, everyone is trying to get each other's money at the table. If you know something that you're opponent doesn't, then give it to him. Use it as an advantage in beating the crap out of him.

My good poker buddy Neil went down under and played in the Melbourne No limit Holdem Championships. I was talking with him the whole time, then I got the bad news. He got busted by a guy holding 89 against his pocket 10s, calling Neil's preflop raise, hitting the 9 on the flop, Neil went all-in, the guy calls then rivered the friggin 9.

Can someone tell me how to say donkey in Australian? Kangaroo perhaps?

The National Playing Style of the Philippines

We have a lot of national symbols. We have the national formal get up which is the barong tagalog, the carabao as the national animal, the Philippine eagle as the national bird.

We have a new one!!!!! The national poker playing style: TIGHT-AGGRESSIVE!

I recently saw the SMB Bar Tour on tv and they interviewed the players of the final table, and each one of them said that their style of play is "tight-aggressive".

That just made me laugh like hell.

It seems that every poker player in this country claims to hava a tight-aggressive game. Do they even know what tight-aggresive means?

I won't even try to discuss and explain what tight-aggressive is for the simple reason that it will just bring heat to my blog. I know a lot of people who claim that they are tight-aggressive but in reality they are not. My opinion is that most of us think that tight-aggressive is the correct or right way of playing poker. So they try hard to be tight-aggressive even if they don't have a clue about it.

As pretentious as I am, I will have to disagree on this. I don't think tight-aggressive is the right way of playing cards. So what's the correct way of playing?

Longest day

Yesterday I played the longest session in my entire life. I sat down at around 4pm, I went home around 3am. Man, I was exhausted as hell. Had some major bad beats in my first 30min putting me in a very bad position. I slowly climbed back up, managing to cut my loses.

Right now, I'm playing over at Absoulute Poker. Multitabling the Ring games there. Will be playing online for the rest of the week because the casino will be close til Saturday.

Time to reflect, it's Holy Week.

Not a nice start to my month, had two losing sessions, one at the casino and in a single table SnG. I can feel the pain of mnlgrind(fish aka mark) every time he bubbles. It sucks big time. BUT I can only blame myself for what happened, I was completely outplayed when I thought my aces were good, apparently the other player had pocket queens and made his set. A totally avoidable situation, just wasn't that sharp at that time to pick it up under my radar.

Nonetheless, I can say that my game is getting sharper and better than last year. I can see my progress as a player and I'm pretty happy with the way things are regarding my game. The only thing that concerns me right now is that my tournament play is not as good as I want it to be. My game is not up to par compared to the what Goma and Fish are showing right now. Out of sight, out of mind as they say. I don't have a lot of opportunities to play tournaments right now, unlike before when it's the only game we play and the existence of the BBC Friday 500. Just like what Mike Matusow said, to be a complete poker player, one should be good playing both ring and tournaments. In addition, I'm also trying to prepare for the Million-Peso Hold 'em championships at the end of the month. There's a good chance I'll be playing that, trying to get that sweet cash and the ego-boosting bracelet.

I will b enrolling on Monday for summer classes to get some units out of the way. Plus I will be trying to log in more hours at the table this week as compared to 2 last week due to my vacation. I also have plans of reviving my online play but focusing mostly on ring games. I'll let fish handle the Sng's. I can now multi-table over at Pacific Poker, meaning more hands for me. Wahoo! I'm still waiting for FBA Poker to be up and running, but for now, I'll stick with Pacific 'til I get the green light from FBA.

When Fantasy Becomes Reality

Apologies to my readers, it has not sink in yet that I am actually playing poker for a living right now. It seems that it was just yesterday when Fish, the rest of the crew, and yours truly, joke about how nice it will be to be playing poker full time. Now that it's here, it has been a major reality check for me.

I never had a real, normal job to begin with, so I don't know what it feels like to be sitting behind a desk from 9-5. So I'm not in the position to say that what I do is way much better than an office Joe. All I know is that I love playing and I feel fortunate enough to be able to do something like this.

I have to admit that it's not as easy as I thought I would be. Before I thought I would be driving my SUV after the first month of playing, but I guess I was wrong. I would say that emotional stress is the major killer for any poker player trying to make it as a pro. That's the thing that I want to develop right now, to leave my emotions out the poker room so that I can concentrate in getting the available money at the table.

Going to the beach later, gotta get my R&R before I go back to the tables full time this summer. I have to charge my nuts so it can handle the swings and the coolers. Heheheh

It's been four months now of playing some hardcore cards and I am fortunate enough to say the things are looking good. The cards fall more often than not my way which pumps up my stack big time. In can't be avoided that I have losing nights, but nonetheless, I can say that playing cards feeds me good right now.

But enough of me, I want to talk about something that popped into my mind a while ago.

I remember my Social Science 2 class which Goma and I took about 2 years ago where we discussed a book written by Nicolo Machiavelli entitled The Prince. The only thing that I remember from that book is that it is better to be feared than to be loved. I'll do my best to relate this to poker.

We've been talking about table image for a long time now and I think we are missing out on something really important. We always talk about tight-aggressive, loose-passive etc. But be often forget to consider our overall persona at the table. Yes, some of players may have sound fundamentals, but the fact that they look like little kids with a lot of money to burn, and trying out poker because it is the in thing right now won't strike fear in the hearts of his opponents especially if he's playing against 50 plus years old men with more money to burn. I think this is the reason why we see so many hands where the lolo calls 2000 bet with a 2 outer and hits it on the river with the younger player hitting trips or two pair on the flop.

I sat down at a table where the average age of the players is at least 55 last week and got burned in my first hour of playing. It's not that they don't think I have game playing poker, they just don't respect me because all they see is a lil' fat punk.

In the end, we all have to find a way to establish an image of pure murder.

The Nutsboy Revelation

Good news to my fellow readers, vacation just shifted into hi gear so I'll be posting more and more. I will also be able to spend more time playing cards may it be live or online.

Since the death of my mom, I've been trying to support myself playing poker. So does this mean that I'm a professional now? I guess so if we follow the strictest meaning of the term. All of my income comes from poker. But since I'm still trying to finish my degree, I'm not yet a full time pro(key words: not yet).

I have to tell you that it's a hard way to make a living, but with the help of some friends(guys, you know who you are), I've been able to somehow make it work. Being able to support myself and help a little bit in my family's financial struggles somehow makes it all worth it, plus I'm playing cards wohoo! I'm somewhat lucky to be able to do this right now because I'm still young. I don't thing I'll be able to do this if I have to feed a family of my own.

So there you have it guys, hope you join me as I begin this wild whirlwind adventure of mine.

Will the journey be worth it?

Just came home from the cardroom, played some mean cards with my partner Goma. It was quite nice to be playing again and doing the live grind coz the online grind didn't go our away, but watch out for Fish, heard he's making a lil wave playing online. Good Luck Bro. Goma and I will give it another shot as soon as we have the roll to grind it out playing online ring games. Our plan is to go online for the summer, 4 tabling a mean low limit NL cash game. Let's see how it turns out, keep you guys posted.

The thing that really pounds my head these days is the question of being a full time professional poker player. Right now it's a bit unrealistic, but in a couple of years, I am sure that some of us will make the jump, quit their 9-5's and play cards for a living online or live. It's not a question of will it bring home the bacon coz we all know that it can bring home the bacon and much more if you're good, but the question is will it be something fulfilling? At the end of the day, can a pro confidently say to himself that he has a fulfilling life playing cards as oppose to someone who's an attorney or a doctor? I'm having a difficult time expressing my views regarding this matter coz it's already 4:07am and I need to take a shower.

So there you have it, will it be a complete, fulfilled life if one decides to make playing poker his occupation? I want to hear from you about this matter.

I don't have any topic in particular right now that I can zoom in and discuss about like my previous post, so here's what I'll do for my loyal readers. I'' just try to write anything and everything that comes into my mind right now... so be prepared...

Here goes nothing...

The thing that I don't like about tournament play is that it only takes one mistake or a terrible bad beat to cripple your stack, take you out, or at the very least, force you to change strategy to short stack play, which I don't like. Of course, you're the person at the receiving end of the other schmuck mistake, well, good for you. But if you're the one making that mistake, that sucks. That sucks big time.

Right now, I'm not sure if that's the real nature of tournament play, or it's just because the way our local tournaments are structured. From what I know, a tournament, just like any other tournament, should showcase the ability of a poker player. And the best player should win it. I'm not saying that our structure sucks, maybe, maybe not, but that's not my concern. Longer levels, blinds structure that is not bloody, I don't know. A good poker player should never be affected by these kind of problems, so my remedy for this? I'll do my best not to make a fucking mistake. Ha!

Let me make it clear that I love playing tournaments. I want to do good both in cash games and tournaments because I believe that a good poker player must have the capability of doing good in both

I noticed during our ring games that some players buy chips directly from other players and the one who receives the cash puts the money into his pocket. I'm not sure if this is the same as "going south" where a player takes chips away from the table. But if it is so, then the casino or the management of the card room should do something about it.

The logic behind it is that, when you buy in a cash game, you must give your opponents the chance to win your money. Your chips should be available to them at any time. Lets say a player goes all in with pocket aces and you call with pocket kings, but you took away a thousand from your 5k stack and the guy had you covered. Instead of him winning 5k, he just won 4k. A little bit unfair for him isn't it?

If you want to cash out a lil of your stack, you should declare that you are cashing out, then post blinds again as if you are a new player. This is the proper thing to do, but I bet most of the players at your table will hate you for doing so. But nonetheless, it's the proper thing to do. I think the dealers should be the ones taking charge of making sure that this doesn't happen, just like the movie Rounders, where the dealer did not allow Wurm to get the chips of Mike.

If my facts are inaccurate, please let me know asap, but if not, let's do something about it.

Been playing ring games lately, again. Playing against total strangers, doing the grind an hour at a time. Been learning a lot of things from playing live again. For me, the most important thing that I learned is that adaptation and feel is a big factor in becoming a winning player. It's like the famous sayings of Bruce Lee (Miguel, I know you know this) "be like water, be formles"

I like to use my good friend Goma as my example. I've been playing with this guy since the very beginning and I have to admire his style, his ability to adapt to his opponents, and he gets this from the way he feels the table. I believe that sometimes, the cards doesn't even matter to him, he has the ability to outplay the guy.

As for me, I like to use the way Sam Farha described himself. I'm a 50-50 guy, sometimes I play good, sometimes I play bad. Sometimes my radar is always accurate, sometimes it's way way off.

This will be a major factor especially when your having terrible luck. It's easy to play when you have the nuts, but how about when you don't? Adaptation and feel will probably save your chips or at the very least, control the possible damage a particular hand might bring you.

It's also like in one of my favorite films, The Last Samurai, when Tom Cruise was trying to learn the fighting ways of the samurai, the nephew of Katsumoto told him "Too much mind, no mind"

And how will you develop your adaptation skills? Experience...

It's been a while since I posted something which pertains to poker strategies. Why? Coz I realized that there are so many poker books, poker forums, and even a poker school which tackels that issue.

Who am I to say something about poker strategy? Who the f*** will believe what I'm saying?

I'll take another shot at it only because I am pretentious.

With the rise of popularity of NLHE, we can't avoid to talk about the right strategy, the winning way. I strongly believe that we can talk about this issue for as long as we can, but we won't agree on the same thing.

Tight-aggressive, losoe-passive, tight-passive, losoe-aggressive. If the table is loose, play tight, but if the table is tight, play losoe. Yeah Yeah, the list goes on and on....

Trying teaching abegginer to be tight-aggressive and I bet he'll probably lose all his stack. He plays tight for an hour, trying to follow your advice, then he'll jam the pot with AK or AQ, then lose all with his stack. Not knowing what hit him.

What happend? He lost being tight-aggressve. Does this mean this is not the right of play? Maybe, maybe not.

My point is, you can read all the books you want, master the ability to calculate your odds and all that mathematical shit. But if you don't have enough experience to back it up, above mentioned doesn't really matter. A close friend of mine had been discussing why after all the months and teh books that we've read, we're still not winning poker players. My answer? We still don't have enough experience to our credit. We still need to develope ball of titanium, not only steel to be winning poker players.

Read all the books available to you, I don't deny that this is important. But if you don't practice your theories. You ain't shit, believe me. And sad to say, we must at the very least empty and reload to learn how to win. We need to feel the pain of losing all of your bankroll, it has to hurt so much that we'll vow never want to experience it again.

We should follow the teachings of one of my favorite philosophers, Karl Marx.

Leaning Over the Edge

I recently talked to a friend and he asked me to write something about tilting. I don't remember writting about this subject before, so I think this is a good time to do it just as when our poker scene is betting bigger by the second.

As we play more and more, it follows that we see more and more hands. More hands mean more crazy shit that will happen at the poker table. We now see royal flush, straight flush, quad aces etc. These hands are widow makers, or very bad beats. Many of us, yours truly inculed, don't notice that we get too attached emotionally to the game we love. As a result, when we get a bad beat, we often lose our cool and attack our opponent.

Tilting is a normal thing. We lose our cool and stuff, but we can't do much about it. We have to understand that is is part of the game. Yes, we may raise a million with our aces, but I'm sure there is a moron that will call with his or her 3-2 off. It's his money, let him do whatever he whishes with it. Hand is invinsible pre-flop. It is so amazing to watch Barry Greenstein or Daniel Negreau handle themslves after a bad beat. They don't say "you called a 500 raise with that garbage?"

The point I'm trying to make is we should still respect the player across the table even after the bad beat. It's never right to verbally attack the person after a hand.

Don't just bring money when you play, also bring respect for the other player.

If you can't hadle the heat, get out of the fucking kitchen.

Think Long Term

Alright, been busy with school believe it or not. Not much action lately, busted my online roll, which means I need more experience playing online, I'll get it the third time I swear. Played at the casino for the first time last Tuesday. Fish and I were fortunate enough to be seated with some decent players, meaning no shenanigan plays from them. They know how to respect the raise and they gamble at the wrong time. Luckily for me, I was up, but hey, as they say, beginners luck.

Long term... It's all about the long term...

Why am I saying this phrase over and over again? Because I truly believe that everything that we do will be done better if we think long term.

Urban planning, we should think long term. Future development of the area, long term, so we can avoid seeing a skyscraper beside a residential area. Long term.

Poker. Guys, you all know what I'm talking about. Play the limits you can handle, play the hands with positive expectation value. Long term.

Car maintenance. My get away car got busted again. Why? Because of quick fix to the previous problem, which led to a bigger problem. If we thought long term, I wouldn't be pushing that big piece of crap on the side of EDSA.

Government. We're having problems with our government and please excuse me if I'll go a little bit political this time, and it won't be a last.

It seems like that our only source of water is a dirty faucet, and we approach the problem poorly. Yes, our choices of leaders to elect every election time may be poor, but we tackle it as if we're hopeless. We filter the water we get from the dirty faucet. What we should do is to change the whole damn faucet. Instead of displaying our pain and suffering after our elected officials do something really really bad, we should overhaul the system once and for all. It may be difficult, costly, god forbid bloody. But that is what is needed to change everything. A drunkard will walk away from his puke, but we seem to bathe with our own. We should take a stand, a cheater is a cheater, and what are we doing with her? Unlike Party Poker and PokerStars, they took the money of ZeeJustin and JJProdigy after they found out that these players enter numerous accounts into a single MTT, and win. Who should take over should be the least of our worries, we have to do what has to be done.

Okay, this online thing proves to be more difficult than I ever imagined. No wonder pros are saying that not only skill and bankroll are needed to be a great online players. It's really tough I tell you. It can drive you crazy like nothing else, sitting in front of a computer the whole day playing around 8 - 10 SnG's a day. God, it's really tough.

But I'm hanging in there. I'm down around $20, and it sucks. Wanna know why? Coz I was stupid enough to listen to my lil' bro and play the $10 sng and the $15 short-handed sng. Thank God I managed to win the 1 $10 buy-in. What does this prove? It proves that I have the skill to play that level, just don't have the appropriate roll for it.

Time will tell when I'm ready for that level.

Been playing a lot of Sng's lately, averaging around 8 games per day. It's barely been a week since I started playing, so I guess the wins and losses are not that significant right now. Probably write the data after week two.

The table is so unpredictable. Sometimes it is very lose, and other times, uber tight. Adjusting to different players all the time, and playing poker seriously in front of a PC proves to be much more difficult than I expected. Luckily, I'm hanging in there. At first I played like a monster, playing more than 10 games per day, but it proved to be too stressful. Read some other pro poker blogs and learned that they try to maintain certain hours of playing so that their bodies won't break down. Makes sense, makes a lot of sense.

Talk to my poker monk, Nickg, and asked him about bankroll management. He beautifully explained to me a method of fattening my roll so I can play higher stakes and at the same time enjoy some hard-earned poker winnings. Sounds like a plan to me, hope it works out.

Gotta get back to the tables, gridding it out.

Commencing Mission

This is my first post on my own. I am a part of Camp Hold'em and Uberadio, but as you all know, a real rock star must have a solo album no matter what. I'll be trying to share here my experiences tyring to make it playing online.

I first started palying online poker last May 2005, but back then, I was a misguided fool. Deposited $50 to Pacific Poker and started playing the .12/.50 NL games. I sometimes play the SNG with different buy-ins, depending on my mood for that day. Unfortunately, I busted my online roll due to poor bankroll management. I would deposit more money if I had a couple to spare, but eventually lose it all.

Then I decided to take a break from it all, besides, no roll means no games. I concentrated back to my studies and set aside poker for as long as I can. My poker itch can't be put away just like that.

Then came last Sunday, when Fish and I were chatting. He was telling me how frustrated he was with Pacific coz he couldn't open multiple windows unlike other sites like UltimateBet or PokerChamps, but he had to stick with Pacific for it is the only one we know that accepts local credit cards. He offered me his other account for me to play online since he owes me money for a project we did togther. I agreed to roll it over the net.

Before playing, I contemplated upon why I was not succesful the last time I tried playing online. Then it hit me. I was playing stakes my roll can't handle. So if I stick to a level which my roll can handle and slowly climb up the ladder, it just might make me a succesful online player. Makes a lot of sense to me.

With the new account, comes with a new name, hence NutsBoy. Been playing the $5 + .50 10-player SNGs, pays 3 places, $25, $15,$10.
